Performing The Radical Imagination Workshop [In Person]

$150.00

Performing The Radical Imagination, sponsored by The Catastrophic Theatre

Date:

Saturday, November 16th, 2024

1-4 PM, Matchbox 3 @ The MATCH

3400 Main St. Houston, TX 77002

About The Experience:

Join us for Performing The Radical Imagination, a transformative 3-hour performance devising experience where art meets liberation! Dive into memoir and historical texts from revolutionary freedom makers and explore how communal creativity can become an act of resistance, healing, and self-empowerment. Together, we will use liberatory texts, movement, song, ritual and rhythm to inspire the co-creation of writing and performance rooted in cosmologies of liberation.

In this dynamic space, you will:

  • Collaborate & Create: Work with others to devise original performances that express freedom and resistance.

  • Explore Your Sovereignty: Deepen your connection to your own power through personal reflection and artistic exploration.

  • Perform Liberation: Engage in a creative practice that transforms liberation into an artistic, communal, and personal experience.

This workshop is for anyone ready to reclaim their power—artists, activists, educators, and change-makers alike.

About Pricing:

This rate allows for fair compensation for the artist. Rates are set in consideration of shifting decolonial paradigms where the labor and productions that comes from Black and female-identifying bodies is historically and contemporarily undervalued and exploited. Single mothers and Artists, as yet another strategically undervalued population, are vulnerable to this type of exploitation--especially artists of color and female/queer/non-binary artists. This pricing ensures that the exchange is one rooted in reciprocity and communal care.

SCHOLARSHIP: For those who are experiencing inability to provide for routine personal needs, such as housing, please email me at candice@candicedmeza.com for pricing options.

Testimonials for working with Candice.

Candice D'Meza is a space holder, a liberation architect, and a conduit of joy. Allow her to help you navigate what it truly means to embody liberation. Not only was this space truly safe, but it was also creative, expansive, fun, and liberatory. More often than not discussing liberation can be daunting and overwhelming because of all that is happening in our personal lives and the world at large. Candice makes the world of liberation accessible and digestible, don't miss your opportunity to be taken to new heights, and expand your mind.

-S.M.

Candice has a power and wisdom that every artist of conscious needs at this moment in history. Her depth of knowledge about indigenous cultures and revolutionary artists and activists flows through everything she does. Her work has given me the tools and self-examination to continue forward in resistance efforts with vision instead of despair.

-Renegade Lens

The experience and information gathered from this workshop was not only liberating but a relief. Learning new vantage points in which to heal from the current entrapments of our past was a gift. This workshop was a welcoming and intriguing start point to exploring how to explore and grow past what has been told the 'one path' should be.
